Machiya Inn Co., Ltd. restores and operates machiya accommodation across Kyoto. On this site, we focus on the houses, the experience of staying in them, and the work required to welcome guests responsibly in residential neighbourhoods. Our approach brings together hospitality, care for older buildings, and practical guidance before arrival.
三方よし — More than one side of a good stay
We call this approach 三方よし (Sampo-yoshi): a stay should not be designed for the benefit of only one side. We consider the visitor, the house and its neighbourhood, and the business that must keep caring for them.
A useful and memorable stay
Visitors should receive clear information, a place that feels considered, and a booking path they can understand. Useful preparation is part of hospitality, especially when a machiya differs from a hotel.
Respect for houses and neighbourhoods
A machiya stands in a living neighbourhood. We ask guests to notice the people, sounds, and everyday rhythms around the house, and we avoid presenting residential Kyoto as a backdrop made only for tourism.

Care for an older house requires steady work. A sustainable accommodation business makes continued maintenance and responsible hospitality possible without placing one side above the others.
Our path
Machiya Planning began in 2006 with work to regenerate machiya for use as accommodation. Machiya Inn Co., Ltd. was incorporated in 2012. These are two separate milestones: the start of the work and the later incorporation of the company.
